RTO can't levy 'one-time' tax on used vehicles: Gujarat high court The Gujarat high court ruled that the RTO authorities cannot levy tax again on purchase of a used vehicle on the second owner because the 'lifetime tax' has already been paid when the vehicle is registered with the RTO for the first time The ruling pertains to the case where Surat-based satish Naika bought a car after Naika was unable to pay the instalments and surrendered the vehicle When the Dhola applied for registrtion of the vehicle in his name. the Surat RTO aurthorities demanded the lifetime tax once again.
